eSIM or roaming: which is better for your next trip?
Simvaya team · · 1 min read
When you travel you have three main ways to stay online: your home network's roaming, a local SIM card bought on arrival, or a travel eSIM bought before you go.
| Option | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Roaming | Short trips when your plan already includes the country | Daily fees and charges per megabyte outside your allowance |
| Local SIM | Long stays in one country | Finding a shop, ID checks and losing access to your home number |
| Travel eSIM | Most trips, including several countries | Your phone must support eSIM and not be carrier-locked |
Visiting more than one country?
A regional plan covers several countries with one eSIM, so nothing changes at the border. Our trip planner tells you whether one plan covers your whole route.
Running low?
You can add data to the eSIM you already have from your dashboard, without installing anything new.
