Check in seconds
Before you buy
A phone locked to one network won't accept an eSIM from anyone else, even if it has the chip. Phones bought outright are usually unlocked already.
Settings → General → About. Next to Carrier Lock, you should see No SIM restrictions.
Put in a SIM card from a different network. If it connects, the phone is unlocked. Your network can also confirm it.
FAQ

Possibly. New models arrive all the time and this list is a guide we keep updating. If your phone shows an EID when you dial *#06#, it supports eSIM.
Most models don't. Before you buy a plan, open Settings → Network (or Mobile network → SIM cards) and look for Add eSIM, or dial *#06# and check for an EID. If neither is there, the phone can't use an eSIM, whatever the model name.
Yes, on dual-SIM phones. Keep your physical SIM for calls, texts and WhatsApp, and set the travel eSIM as your mobile data line.

Most phones can store several eSIMs and use one or two at a time. You switch between them in Settings.
Pick a destination and install your eSIM before you fly.
